Classic micro interior, long and narrow, but with a bit of effort; mainly through old pump clips, fake sodium lamps and fairy lights strung along the ceiling. Unusual - if confusing to the half-cut - ale board, with said output on a scale of light to dark. Four on - I think - with my Lenton Lane Twist and Stout decent off stillage (NBSS 3) with a surprisingly busy and bustling atmosphere within. I don’t recall there being any table service on my visit. Perhaps it was dressed-up in a “I’ll just bring it over” manner, I do recall the young barmaid was very pleasant. I was mildly surprised by this one, though seeing as there is only one other pub – a Greene King barn – offering and local competition I suppose this one acts the main hub of the town. I would have stayed for a second if I wasn’t against the clock for the last train back. 7.5

I tried visiting this micropub a few weeks back whilst in Nottingham, but ended up being thwarted by a lack of train crew, eventually running out of time to get here.
This time, I booked a hotel down the road to ensure I could make it! Attenborough isn't the most inspiring area, especially the walk I took along the main road. Although, I'm sure the local nature reserve is worth a visit. Indeed, it is the inspiration for the pub's name.
I arrived to find the pub quite busy, with a few student types at the front and a large group (possibly some local group/society) to the rear, which made getting to the bar (at the very back) quite a challenge, especially with a dog also blocking the way.
Beers and ciders are listed on the right-hand wall. Judging by the number of pumpclips on the walls (ordered by brewery), the pub has stocked a good variety of local ales. For my visit, there was Old Sawley Murmuration, Blue Monkey Infinity Plus 1, Castle Rock Soundz, Jacaranda Jenny Wren, Lenton Lane Twist & Stout & Sting Tipsy Marian, Tuck's Tipple, Nice Pear & Merry Monk. Craft beers were Time & Tide Lighthouse & Goodh Dorade. Cans and bottles seemed to be popular with the students, who were also ordering bottles of local mead.
It was only after ordering and being invited to take a seat that I realised that service here is table service. I'm not a fan of table service, but the two young staff were very efficient here and having already perused the selection, for once I was happy what I wanted. The barmaid in particular was very knowledgeable about the beers and ciders. I was suitably impressed.
Music was playing (the students seemed to quite like Erasure and were singing along, despite it being well before their time). Board games are available and if you just want to relax, you can admire the various bird-related things around the pub, such as a display of knitted birds near the entrance.
The pub serves a wide range of age groups. A CAMRA discount is offered. I know I got one on my first round, but don't think it was applied for the second. Although, it's only 2.5%
I thought this pub was well worth my wait to visit. I can't see me getting back here any time, as there's nothing else that would bring me back to the area. But if you do happen to be in Attenborough or passing through for some reason, it is worth a try.

This is a bird themed micropub all things ornithology as it's close to the nearby Attenborough Nature Reserve. The service in here was good and attentive from two young and friendly staff members who would take your order at the table, if you're sitting outside in the front or inside at your table. Beer list on our visit was Lenton Lane Pale Moonlight, Azacca Smash, 36 Degrees North and Twist & Stout, a house beer named Murmuration and Blue Monkey Cinder Toffee.
